Middlesex bowler Gurjit Sandhu has signed a two-year contract extension with the club.

The 21-year-old left-arm seamer has made eight first-team appearances after graduating from the club’s academy.

He took wickets in both his List A and Twenty20 debuts for the club, while he claimed his first LV= County Championship scalps against Sussex in July.

Middlesex managing director Angus Fraser told the club’s official website: “Gurjit continues to make good progress as a cricketer and we believe he has a bright future ahead of him.

“Being a left-arm bowler, he offers something different to our attack and he would have played far more white ball cricket for the first XI in 2013 had he not sustained a nasty hamstring injury during the game against Cambridge University at the start of the season.

Under the guidance of (bowling coach) Richard Johnson, I am sure further progress will be made in the near future.”
