Former England international Ryan Sidebottom has signed a one-year extension to his contract to keep him at Yorkshire until at least December 2016.

The experienced left-arm seamer has opted to extend his deal after a successful season in 2014 which saw the club taste their first championship success since 2001.

It was far from the first silverware Sidebottom has enjoyed in an illustrious career, which has seen him win the World Twenty20 in 2010 with England, and now four championship titles after a thriving period at Trent Bridge with Nottinghamshire, but he is relishing his second spell at Headingley.

“I am absolutely delighted to be signing a new deal,” said Sidebottom.

“It’s been a great couple of years for the club, with us winning the championship and continuing to improve.”

The evergreen Ryan Sidebottom said on his contract extension: "I’m passionate about playing; my body is in good shape."

Sidebottom played a key part, taking 49 wickets in the LV= County Championship, along with 14 more in the short formats of the game and his continued excellence with the new ball has left him just shy of another landmark in the game.

“To get to 700 wickets would be brilliant,” said Sidebottom, who started his senior career in 1997.

“I am aware of that milestone and I would like to go beyond that figure. That is the challenge I’ve set myself. I just want to remain focused on the cricket. The younger guys keep me going, keep me fit and motivated. I’d really love to play 20 years if I can.”

He added: “When I came back to Yorkshire I had a long chat with Martyn (Martyn Moxon, director of cricket) and I want to win things for the club under Dizzy (Jason Gillespie, first team coach) and Martyn and Galey (Andrew Gale, captain) and we are moving in the right direction and improving as a side.

"I think there’s a lot more to come from this club if we can play well and keep doing what we’ve done well and keep the game simple. It’s exciting times at Yorkshire, definitely.”
