England batsman Joe Root’s impressive tour of Sri Lanka helped him soar to a career-high 11th in the International Cricket Council one-day international rankings.
Despite his side losing the series 5-2, the 23-year-old moved up 14 places in the standings to sit alongside Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews.
The Yorkshireman was the second-highest run-scorer in the rubber with 367, including an unbeaten century and two fifties.
Jos Buttler has also achieved a personal best, moving to 27th after hitting 145 runs in Sri Lanka.
England skipper Alastair Cook is 34th, three places above Eoin Morgan, while Ravi Bopara and Moeen Ali are 66th and 83rd respectively.
In the bowling rankings, Chris Woakes has risen 25 places to 63rd having topped the wicket-taking charts with 14.
Chris Jordan’s 10 scalps in five matches leaves him 47th, an increase of 10 spots.
