Mushtaq Ahmed has worked with England's spinners for the past six years, since his retirement from playing

Mushtaq Ahmed has left his role as England Spin-Bowling Coach to take up a similar position with Pakistan.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that Mushtaq, who played 52 Tests for the country, will join their coaching set-up with immediate effect.

The former leg-spinner, who enjoyed great success with Sussex towards the end of his playing career, had been working with England for the past six years but has now left as part of a series of changes since the end of the winter schedule.

His departure, coming soon after the reappointment of Peter Moores as Head Coach and the appointment of Paul Farbrace as Assistant Coach, follows the exit of Batting Coach Graham Gooch.

A statement from the PCB, who last week appointed Mushtaq’s former international team-mate Waqar Younis as head coach, read: "Acting on the recommendation of the coach selection committee, the chairman, Mr Najam Sethi, has appointed former Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed as the national spin bowling coach with immediate effect.

"Mushtaq signed the contract with PCB (on) Monday morning and has taken charge of his position.

"Until recently Mushtaq was holding a similar position with the England and Wales Cricket Board."

The statement added that another prominent former Pakistan spinner, Saqlain Mushtaq, had also been shortlisted for the position but the committee had decided in favour of Mushtaq.
