Rain prevented any play between Surrey and Essex on the opening day of the LV= County Championship Division Two contest at the Kia Oval.
Steady drizzle prevented any prospect of action and the washout was confirmed shortly after 3.30pm.
If and when the match does start, it will pit former South Africa captain Graeme Smith, Surrey’s skipper, against England leader Alastair Cook, who is captained by James Foster at Essex.
Surrey lost to Glamorgan in their sole previous game this season but Essex beat Derbyshire in their’s.
