Destructive West Indies batsman Chris Gayle will miss the remainder of the one-day international series against India after being ruled out for up to a month with a hamstring injury.
The 34-year-old was stretchered off the field after being dismissed in the first ODI on Thursday and it has been announced today that he will be sidelined for three to four weeks, which will also rule him out of the Test series in New Zealand.
West Indies hope to have Gayle back for the subsequent ODIs and Twenty20s against the Black Caps but they will have to try and recover from 1-0 down in the three-match series versus India without their talisman.
Gayle was run out following the second ball of the match, during which he suffered the injury that prevented him from leaving the pitch of his own accord.
West Indies went on to suffer a six-wicket defeat, with India reaching the target of 212 with over 14 overs to spare.
