Australia took control of the opening Ashes Test as England’s batsmen were blown away at the Gabba.
The second day of the 2013-14 series started perfectly for the tourists, Stuart Broad grabbing his sixth scalp when Ryan Harris edged behind before Brad Haddin was run out for 94 to end Australia’s innings on 295.
Harris and Mitchell Johnson gave the home side something to cheer by lunch, though, when having Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott respectively caught behind.
Michael Carberry and Kevin Pietersen appeared to have steadied the ship thereafter, only for England to lose six wickets for nine runs.
Pietersen clipped Harris to midwicket while Carberry and Joe Root edged Johnson into the slip cordon either side of Ian Bell and Matt Prior falling in identical fashion to successive deliveries, inside-edging Nathan Lyon to short-leg. A poor spell was then capped off as Johnson struck once more, Graeme Swann the man to go.
Tea brought a much-needed break but, despite a cameo of 32 from Broad, England were ultimately dismissed for 136 - a deficit of 159.
Australia extended their advantage to 224 thereafter, David Warner and Chris Rogers taking the score to 65 without loss.

7.31am - STUMPS! - Australia 65/0; Warner 45, Rogers 15 - What a day for the hosts. They end having not lost a wicket in their second innings, sitting 224 runs ahead. Can England respond? Join me tomorrow to find out.

7.17am - More good work from Warner. Having advanced and driven Swann over cover in the spinner's previous over, he picks up four more with a slog-sweep.
7.03am - There is a little nibble on show for Tremlett. How England could do with a breakthrough here.
6.48am - Chris Tremlett and Graeme Swann are now the men tasked with trying to make a breakthrough.
6.37am - Another boundary comes for Warner as he cuts Broad over point. It's been a good start from the home openers.

6.20am - There is not much happening for Anderson and Stuart Broad at the moment. Warner, in particular, looks in fine fettle.
6.06am - Aggressive start from David Warner, who crunches a full Anderson delivery through cover for four with minimal foot movement.
6am - Here we go then. Big 25 overs for England, who need to make inroads. James Anderson has the ball in his hand.

5.14am - Johnson has now hit Stuart Broad, who leg-glanced four earlier in the over.
5.05am - Some more nasty stuff from Mitchell Johnson to start the evening as Chris Tremlett gloves one down the leg side for four. On a bright note, that meant England avoided the follow-on.
Afternoon Session
Highlights of the afternoon session of day two in Brisbane
4.43am - TEA! England 94/8; Broad 4, Tremlett 1 - An awful spell comes to an end as the interval offers England a chance to take stock. They need two runs to avoid the follow-on, which now takes on paramount importance.
4.35am - WICKET! Swann c Bailey b Johnson 0; England 91/8 - Johnson has a fourth and England have now lost six wickets for nine runs! Short-leg again does the trick as Graeme Swann feathers on to his pad.
4.26am - WICKET! Root c Smith b Johnson 2; England 89/7 - Australia are even further on top now! Joe Root drives expansively outside off stump but can only edge into the cordon as Australia's charge continues.

4.19am - WICKET! Prior c Smith b Lyon 0; England 87/6 - Australia review and that's two in two for Lyon, who's on a hat-trick. Identical dismissal to that suffered by Bell and England are really struggling here. Stuart Broad lets the hat-trick ball go by well outside off stump.
4.16am - WICKET! Bell c Smith b Lyon 5; England 87/5 - Make that real trouble. Lyon gets in on the act as, bowling round the wicket, he takes Bell's inside edge, Steven Smith holding on at short-leg.
4.09am - WICKET! Carberry c Watson b Johnson 40; England 87/4 - Brilliant work from Johnson and Clarke. The skipper asks his quick man to move around the wicket and target Carberry with some short stuff. After hitting the batsman and just missing the edge, he grabs a key wicket as the opener nicks to first slip. England are in trouble now.
4am - Ian Bell, the star of this summer's series, is off the mark, but Australia are keeping England in check outstandingly.

3.43am - WICKET! Pietersen c Bailey b Harris 18; England 82/3 - England cannot get a partnership going here, Pietersen the latest to go as he clips Ryan Harris straight to George Bailey, who takes a sharp catch at midwicket.
3.39am - Good start from Lyon, who ends an impressive first over by beating Carberry's edge with a beauty.
3.30am - Carberry has just nearly paid the price for some casual running to the striker's end, Johnson's throw narrowly missing the stumps. It looked close.
3.28am - Michael Clarke has just instructed Nathan Lyon to loosen up. Looks like we're about to see a change of pace; how will the two batsmen react?

3am - Carberry picks up another boundary, playing Johnson with soft hands through third man for four. He has looked remarkably composed thus far.
2.53am - Wonderful opening four from Pietersen, who pulls Johnson to a tiny gap between two boundary riders.

Morning Session

2am - LUNCH! - WICKET! Trott c Haddin b Johnson 10; England 55/2 - Johnson comes out on top! In what would have been the last over before the interval, Trott feathers one down leg and that's a huge wicket. Kevin Pietersen, playing his 100th Test, will head to the middle with Carberry, who is unbeaten on 31, this afternoon.
1.51am - The first round initially lasts two deliveries. Johnson sends down a throat ball that almost does for Trott, who gloves into the off side. Next up is one on the hip; you don't bowl there to England's number three and he shows why with a handsome clip for three. After a Carberry single and a wide delivery down leg, Trott clips a quick 'un and speeds off for a well-run two, which precedes another off-line delivery. This could be a cracking battle; both seem up for it.
1.49am - He will now. Here we go: Trott v Mitch...
1.45am - Johnson errs too straight again, bringing an identical four for Carberry - who is on to 25. The left-arm quick is still waiting for his first ball to Trott.

1.32am - Jonathan Trott is quickly into his stride, punishing Harris for bowling too straight with a clip through midwicket for four.
1.27am - WICKET! Cook c Haddin b Harris 13; England 28/1 - I am afraid he's not enjoying it quite so much now. Harris, so impressive in the reverse series, breaks through as Cook feathers behind.
1.20am - Cook seems to be enjoying being back on Aussie tracks. He's looking in total control amid Carberry also starting well.
1.09am - Enthralling over from Mitch as he beats Carberry all ends up with a full jaffa that swings before being cut powerfully for four by the opener.

12.33am - WICKET! Haddin run out Carberry 94; Australia 295 all out - He will not get a hundred, though. The lightning quick Michael Carberry scoops the ball up and throws to Matt Prior, who does the rest to leave Haddin well short of a second.
12.32am - Cracking stroke from Haddin, who pulls powerfully through midwicket and moves into the 90s.
12.26am - England continue to ask questions as they target a final breakthrough. For the moment, Nathan Lyon stays strong and offers Brad Haddin able support.
