India batsman Gautam Gambhir is returning to play for Essex for the rest of their LV= County Championship campaign.
A month ago Gambhir joined Essex for the remainder of the season but after playing four games, latterly scoring a championship century in the draw with Gloucestershire at Bristol, he returned home on September 1 for family reasons.
The 31-year-old left-hander is now set to represent Essex, who are chasing promotion, in this week’s match with Kent and then at home to Glamorgan and away to Hampshire.
An Essex statement read: 'Essex County Cricket Club can announce that Gautam Gambhir will be returning to the club following a sudden bereavement in his family.
‘Gautam returned home to India on 1 September but will now rejoin the Essex squad ahead of the trip to Kent on Wednesday 11 September in the LV= County Championship at Canterbury.’
