Pakistan's spinners ripped through Zimbabwe on the final day of the first Test to secure an emphatic 221-run win in Harare.

Nine wickets fell before lunch on the final morning as the hosts imploded in the face of Pakistan spin duo Saeed Ajmal and Abdur Rehman, who ended the innings with four wickets apiece.

Chasing 342 for victory, and resuming today on 13 for one, Zimbabwe's lamentable efforts eventually saw them skittled out for just 120 inside 47 overs.

Ajmal ended with figures of 4-23, while Rehman took 4-36 and Junaid Khan claimed the other two wickets to fall at the cost of 20 runs.

Elton Chigumbura top-scored for the hosts with 28, one of only five Zimbabwe batsmen to make double figures in the innings.

The one-sided nature of the final day's action was in stark contrast to the first innings, from which Zimbabwe emerged holding a 78-run lead.

With the match seemingly in the balance and both sides enjoying spells of dominance, it was ultimately a double-century from Younus Khan that swung the match in Pakistan's favour.

Younus' contribution paved the way for Pakistan's total of 419 for nine declared in their second innings, a score that proved well beyond Zimbabwe's beleaguered batsmen.

The second and final Test is at the same venue from Tuesday, after the Zimbabwe Cricket abandoned plans to stage the match in Bulawayo to save on costs.
