James Franklin will become Middlesex’s LV= County Championship skipper while Adam Voges is on international duty with Australia.
Voges leaves Lord’s to link up with Australia for their tour of the West Indies after their next four-day fixture at Sussex, starting on Sunday.
Ex-New Zealand international Franklin will initially take on the role until the end of August, when either Voges or former captain Chris Rogers are likely to return for the final three Division One matches of the season following the completion of the Ashes.
Although Eoin Morgan will remain as Middlesex’s limited-overs leader, Franklin will also take the reins in two NatWest T20 Blast games while the England one-day international skipper completes his Indian Premier League commitments.

Franklin, who will have Nick Compton as his deputy, has previous experience of leading a team in his homeland, helping Wellington to silverware in each of the two full seasons he has been in charge.
Middlesex managing director of cricket Angus Fraser said: “We are very fortunate to have a number of players at the club that were willing to captain the first XI when Adam Voges leaves.
“James has plenty of experience and I believe his calm, mature and measured persona will make the departure of Adam as seamless as we can possibly make it. I look forward to working with him.”
