Derbyshire opener Billy Godleman has signed a one-year contract extension following his impressive start to the new season.
The 26-year-old left-hander has passed 50 in all three of Derbyshire’s first-class games this term and, after a strong finish to last summer, elite performance director Graeme Welch believes he is in career-best form.
“Billy is currently playing the best cricket of his life,” he said.
“He has done everything we have asked of him during the winter and he’s now reaping the benefits.
“He has put in the hard work and continues to improve both as a cricketer and as a person. He’s become a leader amongst the team and we hope his form can continue.”
Godleman's new deal will keep him at the 3aaa County Ground until the end of the 2016 season.
He has scored 235 runs this campaign, at an average of 47, and played an important role in Derbyshire’s seven-wicket win over Gloucestershire this week.
The former England Under-19s international will miss the next two LV= County Championship games after he was suspended for a Level 2 breach of the ECB’s Discipline Code during the trip to Bristol.
