A maiden double-century from Mohammad Hafeez helped ramp up the pressure on Bangladesh as Pakistan claimed a commanding lead on day three of the opening Test at Khulna.
The opening batsman had twice come close to passing the mark previously in his career, against Sri Lanka in 2012 and New Zealand last year, but it proved third time lucky as Hafeez completed the feat in 286 deliveries.
He was eventually dismissed for 224 by Shuvagata Hom but his heroics with the bat helped Pakistan to a score of 537 for five at stumps and a first-innings cushion of 205.
The signs had been ominous for Bangladesh from the start, as the tourists resumed on 227 for one and with Hafeez already having 137 runs on the board.
His second-wicket stand with Azhar Ali, who had passed the 50-mark yesterday, moved on to 227 before Hom finally split the pair, hitting Azhar's middle stump with the batsman on 83.
That brought the experienced head of Younus Khan to the crease and Pakistan safely negotiated their way through to lunch as Hafeez edged ever closer towards the 200-mark.
Younus was sent packing soon after the interval for 33, with Taijul Islam providing the telling delivery, but Hafeez was an immovable object at the other end.
And after waiting patiently on 198 for 11 deliveries, he was able to snatch two runs off Taijul for his first double-ton before marking the achievement by smashing a boundary.
Hafeez was also enjoying a profitable partnership with Misbah-ul-Haq, but the former's stay was eventually brought to an end when Hom claimed his second wicket, the sweeping right-hander gloving to Mahmudullah at leg slip.
Any hopes of a Pakistan capitulation were quickly snuffed out, though, as Misbah and Asad Shafiq edged the visitors towards 500. Misbah became the third half-centurion of the match before also becoming Taijul's third victim of the innings.
Shafiq then joined forces with Sarfraz Ahmed to ensure the runs kept coming, with both players unbeaten on 51 at stumps.
