Joe Root is not letting his sensational batting form distract him from England’s objective in the Caribbean – to win the Test series.
Root’s first overseas Test ton, a man-of-the-match 182 not out, set the tourists up for a nine-wicket in Grenada last week.
They are now in Barbados ahead of the last game of three, which starts on Friday.
Root, who revealed in his latest exclusive blog for ecb.co.uk that he has been nicknamed Geoffrey (Boycott) after being involved in three run-outs during his Grenada hundred, last week became the third England player after Alastair Cook and David Gower to reach 2,000 Test runs before turning 25.
Yet he is keeping his focus, telling ecb.co.uk: “We’re here to win the series.
“We played well last week and managed a fantastic victory in Grenada. It would be such a shame for it to stop there.
“We want to go away from this tour 2-0 up and go into the summer with a lot of momentum and take another great victory here in Barbados as well.”
On his Test run-scoring, which has been scarcely-believable since the start of last season – he has amassed 1,101 runs at an average of 110.10 – the Yorkshireman was understated.
“I feel quite good at the minute with the bat when I go out and play. Everything feels quite natural,” he added.
“Sometimes it just clicks and you don’t really have to think too much about things – hopefully that can continue throughout the summer.
“At the minute everything is going well but you know how quickly it can turn and you’ve got to try and cash in and make the most of it when you do get little purple patches like this.
“Fingers crossed it is the start of something and not the end of it.”
