England Learning Disability completed a resounding 5-1 series win over Australia thanks to a first international century from captain Chris Edwards.
Edwards, who hit 11 fours, made 104 of England’s 199 for eight in a game reduced from 40 to 35 overs a side due to rain at Princes Park in Melbourne.
He then complimented Tayler Young’s impressive 4-21 with two catches, one from his own bowling, to help limit the hosts to 164 for five, a reply dominated by skipper Gavin Hicks’ 94.
At the closing ceremony Edwards was named man of the match and the series after averaging 97 and also returning best bowling figures of 3-2 off two overs.
The 22-year-old, who was also man of the match yesterday when England sealed the series, said: “To win 5-1 in Australia is amazing, a great feeling to finally to get the series over and done with and we can go and celebrate well tonight.”
Edwards added: “It’s very wild at the moment. Everyone is jumping around, over the moon. It’s just unbelievable. I can’t really put it into words just how pleased everyone is.”
On his ton, Edwards said: “It was a great feeling to get a hundred. It’s something that I’ve always been aiming for. All the hard work and support from the likes of head coach Derek Morgan, assistant coach Les Randall and the rest of the coaching team has been a massive help with my development.”
Reflecting on the series Ian Martin, ECB Head of Disability Cricket, said: “It has been a fantastic series and really well organised. I am delighted with the character the team have shown to defeat Australia in Australia which is something they should be very proud of.
“I would like to congratulate head coach Derek Morgan and his management team on a job well done. I am looking forward to testing ourselves in the next INAS cricket series in 2017, in England.”
