Kent have re-signed seam-bowling all-rounder Matt Coles following his release by Hampshire.
The Maidstone-born 24-year-old made his first-class debut with his home county in 2009 and took 137 wickets at an average just over 30 before leaving for Hampshire in August 2013, initially on loan before signing a three-year deal at the end of the season.
In the remainder of that season and the 15 matches he played in 2014 he added 58 wickets at 27.34 but failed to settle and was released by mutual consent last week, and has now returned to his first employers.
Coles said: “I am delighted to be back at Kent. I am looking forward to joining a talented group of lads and making a real go of my second spell here.
“To come through the age groups to play for your home county was a dream come true. I can’t wait to get started and rekindle my love for the club.”
Coles is also a more than useful lower-order batsman who struck the fastest half-century in last season's NatWest T20 Blast from 18 balls versus Essex Eagles and also has an LV= County Championship hundred to his name, against Yorkshire in 2012.
Kent captain Rob Key said: “Matt is a cricketer with undoubted potential with both bat and ball.
“It's fantastic that he has returned to the county that brought him up through the youth system.”
