Prime Minister David Cameron welcomed the Investec Ashes Series trophy to the SWALEC Stadium, the venue for the first Test against Australia in July, on Friday.
During his brief stay in Cardiff, the Prime Minister took time out to join Glamorgan chief executive Hugh Morris for a photograph with the trophy.
The trophy was then moved to its temporary home in the Glamorgan Ashes Exhibition which is taking place at the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket ahead of Australia’s visit to Cardiff, where James Anderson and Monty Panesar held on to secure England a draw in the first match of the 2009 rubber.
The exhibition, named ‘Glamorgan and The Ashes’, is now open and includes several stories of England-Australia Tests and the involvement of Glamorgan players in Ashes history.
Morris said: "The Prime Minister is a keen cricket fan so I'm sure he is looking forward to the return of the Ashes in July as much as we are.
"The Investec Ashes Series is one of the major highlights of the sporting year, with huge crowds and superb action expected.
“The iconic scenes of Monty Panesar and Jimmy Anderson's last-wicket stand in Cardiff was one of the great memories of the 2009 Ashes and vital in the eventual outcome of the series.”
