Head coach Peter Moores refused to hide away from a disappointing opening to the World Cup and accepted England have to improve against Scotland.
A heavy loss to New Zealand on Friday made it back-to-back losses after defeat to Australia in the opening game, which has seen England drop to the bottom of the Pool A table.
Moores admitted the performance hadn’t been good enough and called on his players to turn out an improve performance on Sunday night against Scotland.
“It was a hugely disappointing day and back up from the game at Melbourne,” he said.
“I feel for the people that have come to watch because it wasn’t a good enough performance and I think everybody associated with that has to bear the blame because people had to go and watch it and we’ve got to come back with something.”
He went on: “We’ve got to play better there’s no doubt about that. The players would agree.
“The lads were up for it, the preparation was good, we got there and we didn’t front up on the field and play the way we wanted to play.
“We’ve got to play with a different style, we’ve got to play with – not ‘freedom’ – but there’s an intent and aggression we need to show that makes people proud to want to watch, and accept that if you get beaten away, you’ve had a crack, you’ve had a go and I don’t think we had a crack yesterday.”
“We’ve got some really good players out there who can be good decision makers,” he added.
“We didn’t make some of the right ones yesterday, but you watch sides play and captains tend to take responsibility and Eoin’s the sort of guy that will do that and players have to.”
One of the key problems in England’s two games so far has been the loss of wickets in quick succession. After 66 for two became 92 for six against Australia and there was a similar collapse against the Black Caps.
Moores admits it is an area of concern, saying: “The batters have to accept that we’ve had some tough periods in games and we haven’t been able to get through those.

“We’ve lost wickets in clumps and that’s an area that we’ve got to get better at so we set some sort of platform up, 103 for three when Eoin got out, and it wasn’t easy early on but we didn’t get through that period and that’s the game.”
However England start to move towards qualification for the quarter-finals with a win against Scotland, which would set them up for the remaining three games in Pool A.
Moores, keen not to be too downhearted, said: “We’re still in the tournament and that’s a positive. We’ve got a game on Monday which is a chance and people will judge us by how we come back.”
He added: “The job of being an international sportsman, coach or player, is you’re in a judgement game, you wanna go out there and show what you’ve got.
“The first chance we have that is on Monday, and talking is okay but its not as good as doing, and Monday is our chance to do that.”
