Chris Jordan and Chris Woakes have spoken of their excitement at the prospect of representing England in a World Cup.
Both all-rounders are set for their first taste of action in a 50-over showpiece after arriving in Australia with Peter Moores’ squad yesterday.
Having watched previous World Cups from afar, the pair are licking their lips at competing in one.
Sussex’s Jordan told ecb.co.uk: “It means everything. As a kid you grow up and are watching this tournament every four years, dreaming of being there some day. That dream will soon become a reality.”
Woakes, of Warwickshire, told ecb.co.uk: “I’m really excited. A Tri-Series and a World Cup… if you are not excited then there would be something wrong. I just want to get out there and get going.
“It is going to be exciting. Every player wants to play for their country, but to play in a World Cup is going to be special.
“Until it happens, fingers crossed I can get in the XI and on that first teamsheet. I think I am excited, almost as a fan, to play in a World Cup would be incredible.”
Before England can turn their attentions to the World Cup, which starts next month, they have a Tri-Series against India and Australia to negotiate.
After two warm-up matches, they kick-off the rubber with a clash with Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 16.
Jordan added: “First and foremost we have a Tri-Series against India and Australia which we need to do well in and build some momentum to take into that tournament. Hopefully we can do that well.
“All we are thinking about is the Tri-Series coming up and the first game of that Tri-Series.
“If we can start to build a little bit of momentum, who knows where we can go in the tournament? I think everyone is feeling quietly confident.”
Woakes is hoping to use the Tri-Series as an opportunity to cement his place in England’s XI for their first World Cup game, against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Valentine’s Day.
The 25-year-old, who took 6-45 in the second of three ODIs he has featured in Down Under and has played a Twenty20 at the MCG, said: “Having played at the MCG before, I know what an amazing experience that is.
“To play in a World Cup there would be very, very special. I have got to force my way into that team because we have got some great players in this squad.
“To force myself into the XI is not going to be easy, but I am going to give it my best shot and I know all the other lads are going to be doing the same.”
Jordan also has experience of playing in Australia, World Cup co-hosts alongside New Zealand, after playing five ODIs in January 2014 early in his international career.
The 26-year-old took six wickets and is hoping to improve this time around, saying: “I really enjoyed my time last year.
“I was new to one-day cricket at the time, so I am going back with a few games under my belt and hopefully I can take a few things that I learnt last time and implement them this time and have a little bit more success.”
