Eoin Morganis determined to put his stamp on the England captaincy on Sunday when he leads the tourists out for the fourth one-day international against Sri Lanka at Colombo's R Premadasa Stadium.

Morgan takes over on a one-off basis following the suspension of Alastair Cook for a slow over-rate during Wednesday’s five-wicket win in Hambantota.

The Middlesex batsman, who has previous experience of leading England, revealed he is excited about the prospect and pledged to be instinctive with his decisions.

The 28-year-old said: “I’ve always enjoyed captaining the side. Having not been a bowler it gives you another string to your bow and it’s something I really enjoy.

“I’ve always done it my way. Things won’t change.

“I play it as I see it so if my way is different then that’s just the way it is.”

Eoin Morgan has pledged to stay true to his own game ahead of Sunday's ODI, saying: "The responsibility on me is to play my own game."

Morgan also thinks the distraction of the captaincy may prove to be a blessing in disguise for his batting, and hopes it might be the catalyst for a return to form.

“It takes a bit of attention away from your batting thoughts throughout the game so maybe it will contribute to me getting some runs,” he said.

“Given the opportunity, if I can get 40-50 balls under my belt in the middle it will do me the world of good. I’ve only had three knocks here so far and maybe felt a little bit rusty.”

But Morgan refused to reign in his natural game in an attempt to grind out a score, adding: “I have to play an aggressive type of game.

“It’s the way I’ve played since I was a kid and it works for me so there’s no use in me going into my shell or not playing any more shots.”
