Matt Dean believes his England side are more than capable of causing an upset in the Blind World Cup semi-finals in South Africa.

Following yesterday’s crucial win over Australia, England have been drawn against world champions Pakistan on Saturday as they bid for their greatest ever campaign.

England were frustrated in the semi-finals of both the last World Cup in 2006 and in the Twenty20 showpiece two years ago, when they lost to Pakistan.

Dean, one of the survivors from England’s last 40-over campaign, said the team are itching to set the record straight.

He told ecb.co.uk: “We’re looking to go one better and playing Pakistan is an opportunity the players are relishing.

England are bidding to reach the final of the Blind World Cup for the first time against two-time world champions Pakistan

“We came quite close at times during the game a couple of days ago and I think we can really set some good plans for them."

Despite the world champions racking up 446 in 40 overs, England achieved the rare feat of taking eight Pakistan wickets for the first time since 1996, and Dean has backed his bowling attack to cause problems once again.

He said: “I stand by my statement when I say we have one of the best bowling attacks in the world at the moment with Luke (Sugg), Justin (Hollingsworth) and Ed (Hossell) and I really think that with the support from the B1s as well we can get them in trouble again.

“We know if we can get through the top order of Pakistan they haven’t got an underbelly so we’re really positive about our approach to the game.”

The London Metro skipper also praised the batting efforts of his side following yesterday’s run fest.

England's Luke Sugg has been in exceptional form so far in the tournament, and is the leading run scorer with 524 runs in five games so far

Sugg is currently the leading run-scorer in the competition with 524 runs, but he has been well supported by the likes of Dean, Hollingsworth, Matthew Page and Dan Field, who have all been prolific.

He said: “It’s so nice when you’ve got guys from all around the team contributing massively, and a lot of that is down to Ross Hunter, our coach.

“He’s instilled a belief in this team where nothing is impossible and we all go out with absolute freedom, and you’re seeing the results of that."

The opening batsman added: “The support has been overwhelming. We’ve had families travelling out, and all the support is amazing from home, on Twitter and on Facebook – it’s driving us on.”
