Lancashire County Cricket Club were presented with the 2014 MEN Business of the Year Judges Choice Award at a ceremony in Manchester’s Midland Hotel last night.

The Red Rose, who have won a flurry of gongs in recent years, were rewarded for their contribution to the economy in the region.

The club have made giant strides in the last 18 months, including securing major naming rights for Old Trafford with Emirates Airline, opening the re-furbished pavilion, hosting over 200,000 fans for international fixtures against Australia and India respectively, as well as announcing a record operating profit.

Lancashire have also launched its first-ever retail bond this year, which has raised over £3.3m worth of applications.

Lancashire chief executive Daniel Gidney said: “We are absolutely delighted to be the MEN Business of the Year Judges Choice particularly focusing on our contribution to Trafford, Greater Manchester and the North West as a whole.

“We are really pleased that all the efforts of the fantastic staff who proudly wear the Red Rose at our 150-year-old club have been recognised with this fantastic award.

“Following the £45m redevelopment of our Emirates Old Trafford home, we have embarked on an exciting new era.

“Not only are we a prestigious international cricket venue determined to host the very best of international cricket fixtures, but we are growing rapidly as a conference and events brand with our flexible and versatile space.”
