Essex limited-overs captain Ryan ten Doeschate has signed a new contract to remain at the club until the end of 2016.
The hard-hitting all-rounder led Essex to the quarter-finals of the NatWest T20 Blast and Royal London One-Day Cup last season.
Head coach Paul Grayson hailed his captaincy in the shorter formats and confirmed the former Netherlands international remains integral to his LV= County Championship plans.
“Ryan has been a fantastic servant for Essex County Cricket Club, and we are very pleased he has decided to extend his time here,” Grayson said.
“He is still a key player for us in all three formats, and his captaincy of the one-day team last season was excellent.”
Ten Doeschate played six championship matches last season – his commitments with Indian Premier League champions Kolkata Knight Riders restricting his appearances – but has a first-class average of 46.26 and has scored 21 centuries in 115 games.
He was as prolific as ever in the shorter formats last summer, clubbing 355 Blast runs at an average of 88.75 while in the Cup he struck a century against Yorkshire at Scarborough on his way to a competition average of 52.50.
Ten Doeschate is currently playing in the Georgie Pie Super Smash – alongside Eagles team-mate Jesse Ryder in New Zealand's domestic Twenty20 competition – where he is the competition's leading run-scorer in its early stages.
