Team most important for Hogan

Glamorgan seamer Michael Hogan is relieved that he proved to be more than a one-season wonder, but admits he would have swapped some of his wickets for more team success.

Hogan had another excellent season for the Welsh county and was named player of the year for a second successive summer.

He took 63 wickets in the LV= County Championship - four less than the previous year - despite a disappointing campaign for Glamorgan which saw them finish eighth in Division Two.

Reflecting on another good season personally and speaking exclusively to ecb.co.uk, Hogan said: “It’s good to have some success again. You’re never sure how you’re going to go in your second year and if you’ve been noticed by other teams, but it was good to take some wickets again.

“It would have been nice to get a few more and get a hundred in all forms of the game (he finished the season with 98) but it’s the old cliche, you’d trade it for a couple of wins.

“We’ve probably under-achieved in the championship cricket so I’d definitely swap it for a bit more team success.”

Michael Hogan took 63 championship wickets, along with 21 in the NatWest T20 Blast and a further 14 in the Royal London One-Day Cup

He also revealed that he was looking forward to working closely with former Managing Director of England Cricket Hugh Morris, who is set to take on an active role with Glamorgan after bedding in this year as chief executive and director of cricket.

Hogan said: “He’ll be a lot more involved next year but I’ve had a few chats with Hugh and he was a very impressive man.

“He did the right thing and turned England’s fortunes around. He's looking to do the same for us and I’m sure he will.”

The Australia-born paceman also confirmed he will be returning to the SWALEC Stadium next season after spending the winter Down Under.

“I will be back. I have signed for three years last year, so I’ve got two years to go,” he explained.

Hogan was a key part of Western Australia reaching the Sheffield Shield final last winter, taking 36 wickets, and with a return to action in Perth likely to be rubber-stamped soon, he added: “That’s in the pipeline, we’ll see how that goes in the next couple of weeks – I’m in discussions with a few teams so hopefully something will get sorted in the next couple of weeks.”
