Leicestershire have signed experienced seamer Charlie Shreck to a new one-year contract.
Shreck claimed 57 wickets last summer, his first season at the club, and is set to form a potent new-ball attack next term alongside Australian signing Clint McKay.
Leicestershire’s plans for next season have been undermined by player departures, however, Shreck’s decision to stay comes after wicketkeeper-batsman Ned Eckersely agreed a new deal this week.
“We are pleased that Charlie has decided to sign a new contract,” Leicestershire interim chief executive Andrew Boyce said.
“He has been a very good signing for us with his performances on the field and his contribution off the field.
“With Charlie and Clint McKay, we now have an experienced frontline seam attack who we believe will produce key performances on the field as well as help to guide the younger bowlers at the club.
“Charlie has been a consistent performer for Leicestershire in all three competitions. He has bowled a lot of overs for us in the championship and also bowled well in white-ball cricket. He is a big character in the dressing room.
“Charlie’s competitive nature on the field was good for the team and he also provided some more than useful runs in his entertaining fashion, including an excellent fifty at Surrey.”
Shreck, 36, has claimed 474 first-class wickets during a career that had taken him to Kent and Nottinghamshire before arriving at Grace Road last winter.
He was the Foxes’ equal-leading wicket-taker in LV= County Championship Division Two last season and won the club’s Frank S Smith award for bowling in the first XI.
