Gloucestershire captain Michael Klinger’s season is over due to an arm injury.

The Australian sustained a fractured left forearm after he was hit by a bouncer from Derbyshire paceman Mark Footitt during last night’s Royal London One-Day Cup Group A clash at the 3aaa County Ground.

Klinger, who also suffered a broken toe earlier in the season, will now have surgery on the problem and then return to his homeland.

A Gloucestershire statement read: “Gloucestershire Cricket can confirm that club captain, Michael Klinger, sustained a fracture to his left forearm whilst batting in yesterday’s Royal London One-Day Cup match against Derbyshire.

“This injury will require surgery and Michael will return to Australia once this procedure has been carried out. Unfortunately, he will take no further part in our season.

“Everyone at the club wishes Michael a speedy recovery.”
