Somerset have awarded all-rounder Peter Trego a Benefit Season in 2015.

The 33-year-old described the honour as a “dream come true” and has immediately set his sights on crowing the campaign by adding to the Taunton trophy cabinet.

“I am thrilled that Somerset have awarded me a benefit because it is the place where I was born and where I have loved playing my cricket. As a Somerset boy this makes me feel very, very proud,” said Trego, who was born in Weston-super-Mare.

“After 15 seasons with Somerset I feel that I am at the peak of my career and look forward to a few more years yet playing cricket at my favourite place – the County Ground at Taunton.

Popular all-rounder Peter Trego has described the decision by Somerset to award him a Benefit Year next season as a "dream come true"

“This is a dream come true for me and during the coming year I look forward to meeting Somerset supporters all over the county and will be hoping to crown my benefit season with some silverware.”

Trego made his Somerset debut in 2000 and has since played 467 games across all formats scoring 13,200 runs and taking 544 wickets.

Somerset chief executive Guy Lavender added: "Peter Trego has been a stalwart of the club for many years and has made an immense contribution to Somerset both on and off the field.

"The general committee was unanimous in its view that Peter was entirely deserving of a Benefit Year and I am delighted for him."
