James Vince might have missed out on an international call up for the Royal London one-day internationals, or next week's NatWest Twenty20 against Sri Lanka, but he is rising in the FTI MVP rankings after producing more quick-tempo runs at the Ageas Bowl.
Vince is up to fourth in the rankings after he contributed 61 and 29 not out as Hampshire recorded their second win of the LV= County Championship campaign against Glamorgan.
The 23-year-old now has 531 championship runs at an average of over 100, while his strike rate is also impressive. Vince has scored his runs at the rate of 80 per 100 balls, which gives his bowlers more time to bowl the opposition out.
The other leading run-scorers are Daryl Mitchell, with 532 runs, at 44 per 100 balls and Ian Bell, with 505 runs at 58 per 100 balls.
Vince’s two hundreds have come against Gloucestershire and Surrey – hitting 144 and 159 not out respectively - and he has three fifties.
He has contributed 23.3 per cent of Hampshire’s runs, which is a percentage that is bettered by Mitchell, who has 29.36 per cent of Worcestershire’s runs.
Bell has 30 per cent of Warwickshire’s runs in the four games he has played.
Importantly for the Hampshire man, he is improving year on year, particularly in the longer format.
In 2012 he finished 40th in T20, seventh in the 40-over competition and 187th in the championship FTI MVP campaigns.
Last year Vince finished 42nd in T20, 26th in the YB40 and 46th in the championship.
Graham Wagg extended his lead at the top of the FTI MVP by taking 4-105 from 37 overs in Glamorgan’s defeat at the Ageas Bowl.
Wagg’s tally of 25 wickets is second only to Steven Finn, who has 29, but the left-arm all-rounder has more than twice as many runs and a better economy rate - 3.05 compared to Finn’s 3.49.
Fifty of Wagg’s 177 overs have been maidens compared to Finn’s 31 maidens from 172.1 overs. Wagg has taken one six-wicket haul against Surrey at the Kia Oval and bagged a four wickets in an innings on four occasions.
Mitchell remains third in the rankings despite being out of county action this week, while Bell is up to fifth, a position he is likely to relinquish through England commitments.
The other big mover – and new entry into the top 10 – is Jack Brooks whose seven wickets helped Yorkshire to blow away Warwickshire and return to the top of the Division One table.
