6pm - So another thrilling day ends with a few expected and unexpected results. Here they are:

Division One

Middlesex easily chased 31 to beat Lancashire by 10 wickets at Lord's.

Riki Wessels and Ajmal Shahzad helped Nottinghamshire overcome Northamptonshire by an innings and 10 runs at Trent Bridge.

Sussex drew with Durham, for whom Kumar Sangakkara struck a superb century, at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground.

Division Two

Derbyshire drew with Kent after Stephen Moore hit an unbeaten 73 at the 3aaa County Ground.

Graeme Smith's stunning 103 helped Surrey beat Gloucestershire by four wickets at the Kia Oval.

Hampshire beat Glamorgan by six wickets at the Ageas Bowl with the help of in-form James Vince's 29 not out.

5.26pm - RESULT! Middlesex (459/8 dec & 31/0) beat Lancashire (266 & 223) by 10 wickets at Lord's - A victory target of 31 proves no obstacle as Sam Robson and Chris Rogers ease Middlesex home.

5.10pm - ecb.co.uk's James O'Brien at Nottinghamshire (409/8 dec) v Northamptonshire (248 & 151): Steven Crook and Maurice Chambers dug in but they just delayed the inevitable. Samit Patel removed Crook with his first ball, a full toss, and Shahzad completed an impressive match with the final wicket of Chambers. Notts have pulled off an unlikely victory after a brilliant performance today.

5.10pm - RESULT! Nottinghamshire (409/8 dec) beat Northamptonshire (248 & 151) by an innings and 10 runs at Trent Bridge - Shahzad claims the final wicket, trapping Maurice Chambers lbw to seal Northants' fate.

5.05pm - RESULT! Derbyshire (118 & 106/0) draw with Kent (235/6 dec) at the 3aaa County Ground - Stephen Moore finishes unbeaten on 73 and Paul Borrington 31 as the captains shake hands on a draw.

5.01pm - Middlesex grab the final Red Rose wicket, Murtagh bowling Kyle Hogg. They hosts require 31 to win.

4.53pm - RESULT! Sussex (505/9 dec) draw with Durham (451/7) at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground - Those late fireworks with the bat were the final act of a rain-ruined game at Hove.

4.50pm – RESULT! Surrey (132 & 267/6) beat Gloucestershire (168 & 230) by six wickets at the Kia Oval - Benny Howell ousts Jason Roy and Steven Davies, for 61, in quick succession but Surrey still kickstart - albeit having stuttered over the line slowly - their season with a highly-impressive win.

4.41pm - Middlesex strike again at Lord's and it's a big one as Murtagh has Prince caught behind for 86.

4.19pm - Durham's quest for the maximum bonus points they craved is agonisingly unfulfilled. When the 110-over mark came up, the champions were two runs short having lost Phil Mustard to Steve Magoffin.

4.15pm - ecb.co.uk's James O'Brien at Nottinghamshire (409/8 dec) v Northamptonshire (248 & 126/8): Shahzad took two wickets in the first three balls after tea, the second a brilliant yorker, to all but seal Northamptonshire's fate. The visitors now need a minor miracle to leave Trent Bridge with a draw. They still trail by 35 runs with 38 overs remaining.

3.48pm – While it is the tea interval at all of the games, why not listen to the ECB podcast. In this latest edition we have a host of exclusive county interviews; plus reflection on the start of the Peter Moores era with England's warm-up win in Scotland.

3.43pm – Glen Chapple's side suffer another blow, losing Tom Smith to Tim Murtagh for a third-ball duck. At tea, Lancashire are seven wickets down with another session remaining at Lord's.

Sussex finally snare Sangakkara for 159, Matt Machan taking a catch in the deep to hand Steve Magoffin his first scalp. Durham need eight runs from 11 balls after the interval to register a full compliment of batting bonus points.

Surrey are closing in on victory at the Kia Oval, requiring another 39 runs to complete their first victory of the season.

3.27pm – Nottinghamshire are closing in on victory now as the returning Siddle dismisses England Under-19 international Ben Duckett cheaply, reducing Northamptonshire to 105 for six.

Buttler completes his second fifty of the match at Lord's, giving Lancashire hope they can survive, while Durham number four Sangakkara raises his bat for his 150.

3.17pm – ecb.co.uk's James O'Brien at Nottinghamshire (409/8 dec) v Northamptonshire (248 & 92/5): Newton and Hall were steadily rebuilding the Northants innings against change bowlers Andy Carter and Andre Adams but their partnership has just come to an end, Newton lobbing a simple return catch to Adams. Siddle is about to return to the attack and he will fancy his chances of adding to his match haul of seven wickets and leading Notts to victory.

3.07pm – Prince is frustrating Middlesex at Lord's, moving to a half-century off 121 balls. Lancashire, 56 behind, are 137 for five.

Just as Northants were showing signs of fight against Notts, Rob Newton provides a return catch for Andre Adams on 19 to end a stand of 30 with Andrew Hall.

2.54pm – Collingwood puts his foot on the gas at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground, only to lose his wicket going for one shot too many. The Durham skipper, looking for more batting bonus points, holes out to Jon Lewis at long-off off Ashar Zaidi for 74 from 78 balls.

Sam Billings' dismissal, caught behind by Gareth Cross off Alex Hughes for 15, prompts a declaration from Kent on 235 for six, 117 in front with Brendan Nash unbeaten on 95. Can Derbyshire, bowled out for a first-innings 118, make a better fist of things second time around in the 45 overs that remain?

2.32pm – Northants' woes worsen at Trent Bridge. Siddle continues his fine form in this match by dismissing Matthew Spriegel lbw to leave the visitors 62 for four.

Jos Buttler and Ashwell Prince help Lancashire reach three figures at Lord's, but they are still 92 runs adrift of Middlesex.

Gloucestershire are fighting back at the Kia Oval. Rory Burns becomes the latest Surrey batsman to fall, his 45 ended by Graeme McCarter.

2.25pm – ecb.co.uk's James O'Brien at Nottinghamshire (409/8 dec) v Northamptonshire (248 & 59/3): Northants are in big trouble now. Siddle and Ajmal Shahzad have bowled all 17 overs either side of lunch and given their side a great chance of victory with 59 overs remaining in the day. The visitors are still 102 behind and look destined for defeat.

2.17pm – Northamptonshire's task of saving the game at Trent Bridge becomes a lot harder as David Sales is bowled by Peter Siddle for 19.

Paul Collingwood registers a half-century against Sussex.

Surrey's pursuit of 267 is checked slightly with the dismissal of Dominic Sibley, caught Alex Gidman off Matt Taylor for four. The hosts require another 112 runs to win at the Kia Oval.

2.03pm – Century for Kumar Sangakkara. The Sri Lanka left-hander moves to three figures, the 47th time he has reached the milestone in first-class cricket, from 202 deliveries and Durham are 258 for four, 247 behind.

1.53pm – Ben Harmison is the first wicket to fall in the afternoon session, becoming Tim Groenewald's second victim. Kent lead by 27.

Durham collect their second batting bonus point at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground.

1.11pm – Here are the lunch scores:

Division One

Lancashire are in trouble at 66 for five in their second innings versus Middlesex, who lead by 127 at Lord’s.

After Riki Wessels smashed 158 in Nottinghamshire’s 409 for eight declared at Trent Bridge, Northamptonshire are 24 for one in their second dig – 137 behind.

Durham, with Kumar Sangakkara unbeaten on 91, are 239 for four in reply to Sussex’s 505 for nine declared at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground.

Division Two

Hampshire, who today took Glamorgan’s last wicket to dismiss the visitors to the Ageas Bowl for 345, chased 67 towin by six wickets.

Surrey, pursuing 267 to beat Gloucestershire at the Kia Oval, are going well at 146 for one after Graeme Smith made 103.

Kent, with Brendan Nash unbeaten on 59, are 135 for three in response to Derbyshire’s 118 at the 3aaa County Ground.

1.03pm – ecb.co.uk's James O'Brien at Nottinghamshire (409/8 dec) v Northamptonshire (248 & 24/1): Shahzad picked up the vital wicket of Middlebrook on the stroke of lunch to boost Nottinghamshire's victory hopes, which looked slim to say the least at the start of the day. Northants need a Paul Collingwood-style innings from one or two of their batsmen to avoid a third defeat of the season.

1pm – Smith goes for 103, caught behind off Matt Taylor, and Notts’ Ajmal Shahzad cheaply bags James Middlebrook leg-before. We’ll soon round up the lunch scores.

12.53pm – With lunch approaching, in-form Kent batsman Brendan Nash brings up a half-century in the rain-ruined game at the 3aaa County Ground.

12.27pm – RESULT! Hampshire (345 & 68/4) beat Glamorgan (224 & 187) by six wickets at the Ageas Bowl. James Vince hits three fours to put the hosts top of Division Two, replacing Worcestershire who are not in championship action this week.

12.23pm – Wessels departs to Muhammad Azhar Ullah for a stunning 158 from 152 balls and Notts immediately declare on 409 for eight, a first-innings lead of 161.

Gareth Rees accounts for Will Smith, but Hampshire need just another 11 to win with six wickets left.

12.15pm – ecb.co.uk's James O'Brien at Nottinghamshire (406/7) v Northamptonshire (248): It has been raining sixes here at Trent Bridge. Wessels has hit seven alone this morning, racing from 100 to 150 in only 20 balls. He has received good support from Ajmal Shahzad and the pair have just moved their partnership to 100 off just 47 deliveries. Notts have comfortably picked up maximum batting points on a nightmare morning for Northants, who will need to clear their heads quickly when they bat as they look to save this game.

12.11pm – Steven Finn pins Horton in front, making Lancashire four down, Sussex’s Luke Wells likewise ousts Michael Richardson and Daniel Bell-Drummond pays for playing no shot to Tim Groenewald as he loses his middle stump to depart for 24.

12.03pm –Wessels rockets to 150, his last 50 coming off 20 balls! As well as helping Notts’ cause in this game, he is teeing himself up for Friday’s NatWest T20 Blast opener with Lancashire Lightning, also at Trent Bridge.

11.57am – Kumar Sangakkara has his first Durham fifty, in his third innings for the defending champions. He gets there with his eighth four.

Surrey’s Smith flies into the eighties, moving his side into three figures.

11.49am – Roland-Jones gets a wicket when Karl Brown is lbw for nought, leaving Lancashire in trouble at 24 for three and 169 behind.

Surrey skipper Graeme Smith raises a fifty and Glamorgan’s Smith strikes twice in an over, ousting Michael Carberry thanks to Stewart Walters’ diving catch at second slip and trapping Liam Dawson in front. Hampshire are 27 for three.

11.43am – ecb.co.uk's James O'Brien at Nottinghamshire (306/7) v Northamptonshire (248): Riki Wessels and Chris Read brought up their fifty partnership in the third over of the morning and the pair were aggressive in pursuit of extra batting points. Wessels hit Andrew Hall over long-on for six to move to 98 before Read was caught by Rob Newton on the square-leg boundary. Wessels brought up his century against his former club with a single off James Middlebrook and Notts quickly claimed a third batting point courtesy of a Peter Siddle boundary. The Australian has since fallen to the same bowler. It is all happening here.

11.31am – Hampshire, chasing 67 to go top of Division Two, lose skipper Jimmy Adams to Ruaidhri Smith with just one on the board.

Middlesex’s Tim Muratgh accounts for nightwatchman Simon Kerrigan, but Paul Horton is dropped by wicketkeeper John Simpson off Toby Roland-Jones.

11.16am – Sussex’s James Anyon has Scott Borthwick caught behind for 84 and Kent captain Rob Key falls to Tony Palladino.

11am – NatWest T20 Blaststarts on Friday evening with seven games. Are you going to one? Here’s a video to whet your appetitie:

10.53am – As well as yesterday’s championship action, Essex beat the touring Sri Lankans in a game reduced to 21 overs a side. Alastair Cook confirmed his fine form with 71 from 49 balls.

10.45am – Good morning and welcome to our coverage of the climax of the latest LV= County Championship games. Here’s how they stand, and how Yorkshire yesterday thrashed Warwickshire to move top of Division One:

Division One

Yorkshire have gone top of the Division One table following an innings-and-155-run win over Warwickshire, who were bowled out for 89 after being asked to follow on. Jack Brooks’ 4-37 did the most of the damage second time around.

Durham are 137 for two, with Scott Borthwick unbeaten on 84 and Kumar Sangakkara with him on 30, after rain limited day three’s action to 45.2 overs with Sussex having declared overnight on 505 for nine at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground.

Lancashire cautiously progressed to 15 for one from 10 overs, 178 behind, after Middlesex declared at 469 for eight following an Eoin Morgan century.

Nottinghamshire are 259 for five, with Riki Wessels unbeaten on 78 after James Taylor hit the same score, and have edged into an 11-run lead against Northamptonshire at Trent Bridge.

Division Two

Surrey are 47 for no wicket in pursuit of 267 after rain allowed just 2.5 overs today in their clash with Gloucestershire at the Kia Oval.

Hampshire are in sight of victory against Glamorgan at the Ageas Bowl after reducing the visitors to 185 for nine– a lead of 64 runs. South Africa seamer Kyle Abbott has 3-34.

Kent are 10 without loss at the 3aaa County Ground after rain washed out the third day’s play against Derbyshire, who scored 118 in their first innings.
