Harry Gurney is hoping to play against Scotland on Friday
Tomorrow will be the best day of Harry Gurney’s life should be handed his England debut in the Royal London one-day international against Scotland.
The Nottinghamshire seamer heads to Aberdeen as part of a 13-man England squad that are looking to get Peter Moores’ reign as Head Coach off to a winning start.
The 25-year-old, an unused member of the party that toured the West Indies earlier this year, is hoping tomorrow finally brings his international bow.
“It would mean the world; it would be the best day of my life,” Gurney told ecb.co.uk.
“Over in the West Indies, I didn’t quite get selected and that was frustrating, but I still loved every second of it. I came back hungry for more. Hopefully I get my chance on Friday and it would be a proud day for me and my family.
“It will be a great feeling of pride and maybe a few butterflies as well.”
The former Leicestershire left-armer is relishing the challenge of making the step up to the international arena.
“In the practice sessions you are bowling at some of the best players in the world,” he added.
“It’s quite a challenge sometimes to contain them when you are doing your death sessions. It is a challenge that I enjoy and we have some good fun.”
Gurney is adamant England will not be taking their hosts lightly in Aberdeen, saying: “If you were to ask the bookies, I guess we would be heavy favourites.
“But you have to go into any fixture and bowl and bat as well as you can. If you don’t do that, you can get caught out.
“Whatever the XI is, they will be going out there giving 100 per cent to get a win for England.”
