Ben Stokes speaks about the frustration of a wrist injury that has kept him out for two months
England all-rounder Ben Stokes hopes to get good news over his wrist injury when he undergoes a scan next week.
Stokes has been sidelined since he struck a locker in the dressing room after he was dismissed for a duck against West Indies in a Twenty20 international at Barbados on March 13.
The 22-year-old, who was then ruled out of the World Twenty20, underwent surgery on the fractured scaphoid in his right hand and hopes he can soon start to step up his recovery following a limited rehabilitation period.
“The injury is going well,” Stokes, who last month spoke encouragingly about his progress, told ecb.co.uk.
“We’re on track with the rehab. I’ve got a scan on May 12 which will give myself a better indication of when I can get back in the nets and hopefully get back on the park.
“It is a CT scan, which will get into the bone and see how it’s healing and then the people who make the big decisions will tell me what I can do.”
Stokes admits he has been frustrated by the injury, which has prevented him from doing some everyday tasks.
“It’s pretty limited in what I can do,” he said.
“I’ve been running for the past two or three weeks and body weight stuff. I’m not allowed to grip anything so it’s been a pretty boring six weeks.
“The fact I haven’t been able to do anything – which doesn’t go with my character at all. I always like to be busy and active so I’m chomping at the bit to get back out there.”
