England stars Charlotte Edwards, Sarah Taylor, Anya Shrubsole and Natalie Sciver have been chosen in the Women’s World Twenty20 team of the tournament.
Edwards, her country’s captain, was the fourth-highest run-scorer in the competition with 200 at an average of 33.33. She leads a World T20 select XI for a second time.
Wicketkeeper-batter Taylor, Edwards’ opening partner, was three places lower on the list with 153 runs at an impressive 51. Taylor, who is the XI’s keeper, made four stumpings and took two catches.
Seamer Shrubsole was player of the tournament and leading wicket-taker with 13 scalps at a stunning average of 7.53.
Sciver, another seamer, was the second most potent bowler with 10 victims at 9.6.
Chairman of the independent jury that picked the side David Boon said: “This year’s tournament again demonstrated the incredible depth of talent across women’s cricket. Selecting one team of 11 players was a tough task as we saw standout performances from many players.
“The selection criteria are the performances of players in the conditions here in Bangladesh during the ICC World Twenty20 2014, so some of the world’s best players had to be left out.
“The side reflects the effectiveness of bowlers throughout the tournament, with four specialist bowlers, including Bangladesh spinner Salma Khatun, as well as four all-rounders and three specialist batters who have performed consistently throughout the tournament.”
Shrubsole said: “Since our very first match against the West Indies in Sylhet, I have thoroughly enjoyed playing and bowling in this tournament. It is always nice to receive recognitions such as this, but the main thing is that I have been able to contribute to a successful England team over the past two weeks.
“This tournament has been a wonderful demonstration of the increasing standard of women’s cricket across the world. It is an exciting time to be playing the game, and I hope that we have helped to inspire young girls everywhere to pick up a bat and ball and get involved.”
