Harmanpreet Kaur struck a superb 77 as India grabbed their first win of the Women’s World Twenty20 by brushing aside hosts Bangladesh.
India’s decision to bat paid immediate dividends as openers Kaur and Mithali Raj put the Tigers to the sword in a 107-run stand.
Their partnership, featuring a 38-ball 41 from Raj, left Bangladesh behind the eight-ball from the off.
Kaur hit 12 fours and a six in her 59-ball stay and, despite nobody else in India’s line-up producing a score of note, a dominant total of 151 for five was still posted.
Bangladesh did not even look like threatening that target as they stuttered to a disappointing 72 for eight to lose by 79 runs.
That skipper Salma Khatun top-scored with 19 illustrated the difficulty the Tigers had, Shubhlakshmi Sharma and Jhulan Goswami leading the way for India with three wickets apiece.
