Bangladesh are on the verge of reaching the World Twenty20 Super 10 stage on home soil after an eight-wicket win over Nepal.

Having thrashed Afghanistan by nine wickets in their tournament opener, Mushfiqur Rahim’s side again had few problems chasing down a moderate target.

Al-Amin Hossain sends down a delivery on the way to figures of 2-17 as Bangladesh comfortably saw off the threat of Nepal

Nepal, who harboured their own ambitions of being the sole side to progress from Group A after beating Hong Kong, posted 126 for five.

Al-Amin Hossain reduced Nepal to 32 for three en route to figures of 2-17, but Paras Khadka’s 41 and 40 from Sharad Vesawkar helped the minnows rebuild.

In reply, Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque put on 63 for the first wicket and, even though both fell in quick succession, Sabbir Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan steered the hosts to victory with 27 balls to spare.

Shakib dominated their unbeaten 53-run partnership, clearing the ropes four times in his 18-ball 37.

Bangladesh now need only to avoid defeat against winless Hong Kong to line up alongide Australia, India, Pakistan and holders West Indies in Group 2 of the Super 10.

The news was not so good for Bangladesh's A team, who fell to a five-wicket defeat to South Africa in a warm-up match.

Dale Steyn and Lonwabo Tsotsobe took two wickets each as Bangladesh A posted 116 all out with eight balls unused.

South Africa looked to be in trouble when they slipped to 38 for four, but Farhaan Behardien’s unbeaten 36 and Albie Morkel’s 27 not out carried them over the line. Taijul Islam finished with outstanding figures of 3-12.
