Injured England batsman Joe Root will miss the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh and is to be replaced by Ian Bell.
Root suffered a broken thumb early in the innings that saw him register a maiden format century in the final one-day international against West Indies in Antigua last week.
The 23-year-old Yorkshireman flew home from the on-going tour of the Caribbean and, unfortunately, following a consultation with a specialist, he has been ruled out of the tournament later this month.
Bell had already joined the England touring party in Barbados as injury cover and the World T20 Event Technical Committee has approved his inclusion in the tournament squad.
The Warwickshire batsman, 31, has represented his country in the shortest format on seven previous occasions.
England’s opening match of the World T20 is against New Zealand on Saturday, March 22.
