Experienced batsman Jonathan Trott is set to resume playing at the start of the season with his county Warwickshire

England batsman Jonathan Trott, who returned home from the Ashes tour with a stress-related illness, is due to be back in action for Warwickshire at the start of the domestic season.

Trott has not played since November’s opening Ashes Test in Brisbane but is set to feature in his county’s friendly with Gloucestershire at Edgbaston over two days from April 1.

The 32-year-old, Warwickshire’s current beneficiary, is then due to face Oxford MCCU at the Parks on April 7 and Sussex at Edgbaston in the LV= County Championship from April 13.

Trott, who is not part of Warwickshire’s pre-season tour to Barbados, said: "I've been overwhelmed with the kind messages of support from players, coaches and fans over the last few months, and I'm really looking forward to joining up with Warwickshire ahead of the new season.

"We've got a strong squad that's capable of challenging for trophies in all competitions, and I'm determined to play a big role and hopefully contribute to more success for the Bears in 2014 and beyond."

Warwickshire director of cricket Dougie Brown said: "Everyone at Edgbaston will be thrilled to see Jonathan return to training after the club's pre-season tour of Barbados, and take to the field at Edgbaston in the 2014 season.

"Having met recently, he looks in great shape and is certainly hungry to score plenty of runs for Warwickshire. He's been a crucial member of the England set-up for nearly five years and I am certain he will be back as England's number three in the near future."
