Number nine Thisara Perera hit 80 not out as Sri Lanka recovered from 67 for eight to win a low-scoring first one-day international against Bangladesh by 13 runs.
Thisara lifted his side to 180 all out, putting on 82 with Sachithra Senanayake and 31 alongside scoreless last man Lasith Malinga.
The home side appeared to be cruising at 114 for two in reply but contrived to lose their remaining eight wickets for 53 run.
Such a result did not appear on the cards when Sri Lanka’s top order folded, Rubel Hossain doing the early damage by ousting both openers.
Even Kumar Sangakkara could not rescue matters, falling cheaply to Al-Amin Hossain as good bowling combined with a couple of run-outs to derail the tourists.
Perera had an early escape when, having hit Sunny for four, another big shot at the next ball was fumbled over the rope for six.
That drop, plus Senanayake being shelled when edging Sohag Gazi to Mahmudullah, was to prove costly as the pair took Sri Lanka to a defendable total.
It appeared the Tigers would have little trouble easing to victory, with Shamsur Rahman striking a fine 62 that was complemented by Mominul Haque’s 44 and Mushfiqur Rahim’s 27.
But Bangladesh suffered from a collapse akin to the one that befell Sri Lanka as Angelo Mathews claimed 3-21.
