Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Moin Khan has been named as his country’s new head coach.
Moin will replace Dav Whatmore when the Australian’s contract ends this month, taking the reins for the Asia Cup and next month’s World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.
The 42-year-old’s appointment was confirmed at an eight-member management committee meeting, a day on from Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Zaka Ashraf being dismissed and the board of governors dissolved.
On the back of this upheaval, Aamer Sohail’s appointment as chief selector by Ashraf last week has been reversed.
Former off-spinning all-rounder Azhar Khan, who played a solitary Test against Australia in 1980, will now head an interim selection panel.
The management committee, led by now reappointed PCB chairman Najam Sethi, has also moved to finalise Moin’s backroom team.
Mohammad Akram’s two-year contract as bowling coach has been approved, while Shoaib Mohammad will be fielding coach for the forthcoming tournaments.
Moin had previously served as Pakistan team manager since the middle of last year but was recently replaced in that role by Zakir Khan.
