Kevin Pietersen has represented Surrey when available to the county since 2010 and is to play for them once again this campaign

Kevin Pietersen has agreed terms to continue playing for Surrey this season, mainly in the NatWest T20 Blast.

Pietersen, who was released from his ECB central contract last week, has represented Surrey when available since 2010.

The 33-year-old batsman is set to chiefly feature in the revamped domestic Twenty20 competition, although he could also take part in other formats when his likely Indian Premier League involvement ends.

Surrey director of Cricket Alec Stewart said: “Once the IPL and his IPL commitments are finished, he’s then available for Surrey. Now it’s predominantly a Twenty20 agreement and that’s not to say we won’t see him in a four-day game or a 50-over game.”

Stewart added: “Unsurprisingly there was a great deal of interest in Kevin from around the world, but he has made it very clear that he wants to play at Surrey and it is not only good news for the club but for the domestic game in this country. We are now looking forward to watching him in the middle, scoring a bucket-load of runs for Surrey.”

Pietersen added: “I’m absolutely delighted to have agreed terms with Surrey and am thoroughly looking forward to playing my cricket for the club this summer.

“I’ve had some of my best moments in cricket at the Kia Oval and I’m really excited at the prospect of getting back out there playing in what will hopefully be a brilliant summer for us all at Surrey.”
