Danielle Hazell insists England Women are determined to end their victorious Ashes series on a winning note in Sydney.

Charlotte Edwards’ side retained their crown with an emphatic nine-wicket triumph in the first Twenty20 encounter of the multi-format series at Hobart.

England off-spinner Danielle Hazell is relishing the prospect of opening the bowling for England in their forthcoming T20 internationals

Australia hit back by easing to a seven-wicket victory at the MCG on Friday and another win in the final T20 encounter would hand the hosts the consolation of having bested England in both limited overs formats, with only their Test reverse in Perth to blame for a series defeat.

But Hazell does not want the blow to be softened in this fashion.

“Every time you put an England shirt on you’re looking to win,” she told ecb.co.uk.

“We didn’t put in the performance that we wanted to (in Melbourne) and we’ll be going into Sydney looking to win, looking to put in a good performance and looking forward to the World Cup as well.

“You look at this in mini-series and that’s something that we need to do now.

“Australia, they did win that one-day series and this is definitely something we’ll be looking at to go to Sydney and win.”

As the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh comes into view, England will continue to tweak their plans for the tournament and Hazell may have a key role to play.

The Durham off-spinner opened the bowling last time out, ending with miserly figures of 11 runs from four overs.

“We’re just looking at all different areas,” Hazell explained. “We’ve got different players coming in and looking at where their strengths are (with their) bowling.

“If I’m asked to open the bowling I’m very happy to do it. I’ve done it before in T20 cricket – it’s always been something that’s a challenge to me, bowling in the powerplay.

“It’s an area that I want to continue to work on and if the time comes when I’ve got to open the bowling then I’m ready to do it.”
