Two players from Billingborough CC in Lincolnshire will attempt to bat for a record 48 hours straight and raise £10,000 for Brain Tumour Research later this month.

Dave Newman and Richard Wells chose the charity after team-mate Wayne Chessum was diagnosed and treated for two brain tumours in two years. The pair have already raised more than £2,000.

Newman said: “The cricket club has been directly affected by seeing what Wayne has been through and we would like to raise as much money as possible so that hopefully other people can have the quickest and best treatment possible.

"We want to give something back to the Brain Tumour Research team because their research has helped Wayne hugely.”

The current record is held by 23-year-old Alby Shale, who batted for 26 hours in July 2013, facing more than 6,000 balls at the Kia Oval in aid of the Rwanda Cricket Stadium Foundation.

The challenge will take place at Northgate Sports Hall on Millfield Terrace in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, on Thursday, January 30 2014 from noon and if the pair complete their target of 48 hours, will end on Saturday, February 1 at noon. They are calling on volunteers to help keep time, take notes and have a bowl.
