Paul Farbrace is to take over as Sri Lanka head coach after leaving his role coaching Yorkshire's second XI.
Sri Lanka, who lost the opening one-day international of a five-match series to Pakistan yesterday, made an approach for Farbrace on December 7, which was reluctantly accepted by Yorkshire.
The 46-year-old, who worked for Sri Lanka Cricket from 2007 to 2009 as the assistant coach for the senior side, will move to Sri Lanka with immediate effect and join the players on their current tour against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.
Yorkshire chairman Colin Graves said: "Paul's departure from the club is a loss and I would like to personally thank him for his efforts over the past two years in his role as second-team coach.
"Paul leaves the club in an excellent condition and his dedication in developing the careers of some of our young players, who are now coming through the ranks, is a major part in moving the club forward to achieve its aims and ambitions.
"He goes to Sri Lanka with our blessing and we wish him well in the next chapter of his career. We look forward to welcoming him back to Headingley in June, when Sri Lanka will take on England in the opening Test series of the summer."
Director of cricket Martyn Moxon added: "Paul has made a huge impact during his tenure at Headingley.
"He joined at the same time as (first team coach) Jason Gillespie as part of a new coaching structure in 2012 and both have been very successful in our development.
"Paul is an outstanding coach and deserves to take on this role with Sri Lanka Cricket.”
The Yorkshire hierarchy will now consider a number of options before deciding which direction to take to fill Farbrace's position.
