Sarah Taylor has replaced Holly Colvin, who is taking a break from cricket to pursue other career opportunities, as captain of County Champions Sussex Women for the 2014 season. Fellow England international Arran Brindle has been named vice-captain.

Taylor and Brindle led the side this year while Colvin was injured. Wicketkeeper-batter Taylor was in charge during the County Championship final against Yorkshire when her unbeaten 128 aided Sussex’s sixth championship title in 10 years.

Taylor has been a part of Sussex Women’s squad for nine years and has progressed to being one of the world’s best batters. She is ranked number one in Twenty20 internationals and second in one-day internationals.

Brindle, who joined Sussex three seasons ago from Lancashire, has captained the men’s first team in her hometown of Louth as well as Lancashire Women and England Academy Women.

Taylor said: “I am delighted at being appointed as captain for Sussex and working with such a fantastic squad of players at Sussex.

“Working with Arran as my vice-captain is something I am looking forward to continuing having worked with her through the summer, and we work well together. Our aim is to retain the County Championship, which we worked so hard to win last season, as well as win back the T20.”

Sussex Women coach Charlotte Burton said: “It is great to give the captaincy to Sarah; she has not only grown as a player over the last few years but has grown as a person.

“She has great cricket knowledge and along with Arran as vice-captain I am sure they will do a fantastic job.”
