Shikhar Dhawan’s fifth one-day international century this year set up a comfortable series-clinching win for India over West Indies at Kanpur.

Dhawan’s rapid 119, from just 95 balls, put the hosts on their way to overhauling 263 for five with five wickets and 23 deliveries to spare for a 2-1 scoreline.

The 27-year-old, who has played 23 of his 28 ODIs this year, shared a crucial third-wicket stand of 129 with Yuvraj Singh, whose 55 was his first fifty in 12 ODI innings.

By the time captain Dwayne Bravo had Dhawan caught and bowled in the 38th over, India were well on course for a victory completed by skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Despite being on the losing side, off-spinner Sunil Narine was the game’s outstanding bowler with figures of 1-32 from 10 overs.

The Windies endured the harsher batting conditions of a 9am start in wintry temperatures. However, Kieran Powell and Marlon Samuels added 117 for the second wicket en route to 70 and 71 respectively.

Darren Bravo’s unbeaten 51 from 53 deliveries and a 29-ball 37 not out from Darren Sammy gave the Windies something to defend after Ravichandran Ashwin returned 2-45 from 10.
