Derbyshire skipper Wayne Madsen wants his side to do their part as they host Warwickshire knowing anything less than a win will result in relegation.
They are 15 points behind Nottinghamshire, with Somerset a further point ahead, meaning victory with as many bonus points as possible is required to keep them in contention.
That may still not be enough as their two relegation rivals meet at Trent Bridge and would both stay up with a maximum-bonus-points-draw.
But a win for either side would offer a glimmer of hope for Derbyshire and Madsen is looking to ensure they keep their end of the deal.
"We have to win,” he told his club’s official website. “The boys are buzzing for it, like they were last year when we entered the last game knowing that we needed to win our last game to get the Division Two title.
“We’ll try to focus as much as possible on our game and not worry about what’s going on there, we’ll leave that to the coaches and they can keep us informed we’ve got to focus on what we need to do.”
Derbyshire are boosted by the availability of Chesney Hughes and Richard Johnson. Hughes has missed the last three games after flying to the United States for the birth of his son while Johnson suffered a hand injury in the defeat to Durham.
Nottinghamshire, who won the Yorkshire Bank 40 on Saturday, are winless in their last 11 four-day games but with bonus points expected to be key, they will take comfort from the fact they have recorded more batting points than everyone in Division One except Yorkshire this season.
Somerset have picked up the least bating points in the top flight, although they have taken one more with the ball than Notts and are in decent form having won three of their last seven county championship fixtures.
Jos Buttler and Jamie Overton are available for the clash following England duty but Piyush Chawla has returned to India to participate in the Challenger Trophy.
Director of cricket Dave Nosworthy admitted it was a huge blow.
“The news of PC (Chawla) being called back to India could not have come at a worse time,” he told the club’s website.
“We simply need to get on with things. The match against Notts as we all know is massive and we are all looking forward to it.”
Ben Stokes has warned Sussex that Durham are not going to be taking things lightly despite having secured the Division One title, as they target another 16 points to break the two-division format record and become the first team to win 11 matches.
“We want to finish the season as well as we can,” he told ecb.co.uk. “There’s a couple of records up for grabs so there’s still lots to play for. Hopefully we can cap off a really great year with another win.”
Relegated Surrey are without injured trio Jade Dernbach, Stuart Meaker and George Edwards for visit of Yorkshire, who have named 17-year-old left-arm spinner Karl Carver in their 14-man squad.
In Division Two Northamptonshire travel to Worcestershire requiring five points to secure promotion. Anything less will allow Essex the chance to leapfrog them, providing they get a big win at the Ageas Bowl against Hampshire.
Essex head coach Paul Grayson admits their prospects are slight, and the county will therefore rest Ravi Bopara and Reece Topley for the fixture.
"The chances of catching Northants are very slim now and that's why one or two people have been rested,” he explained. “But we are still going there to win this game, we still believe we have got an eleven that can win the match.”
Tim Westley is included for the first time since breaking a finger in June while 19-year-old Kishen Velani will make the trip.
Champions Lancashire travel to Kent as they attempt to complete an unbeaten campaign while Glamorgan look to put their YB40 disappointment behind them as they host Gloucestershire at the SWALEC Stadium.
