Glamorgan have signed South African top-order batsman Jacques Rudolph as their overseas player for the 2014 and 2015 seasons subject to receiving clearance from Cricket South Africa.

Rudolph, 32, has played in 48 Tests and 45 one-day internationals for the Proteas. The left-hander has amassed over 16,000 runs and scored 46 centuries during his first-class career. He has also been a proven performer in county cricket, chiefly with Yorkshire for whom he scored 5,429 first-class runs at an average of 52.20.

On his Test debut, Rudolph made 222 not out and shared an unbroken stand of 429 with Boeta Dippenaar for South Africa's third wicket against Bangladesh. This is the highest partnership in Test cricket to involve a debutant.

Hugh Morris, who will join Glamorgan as chief executive and director of cricket, said: "Signing a player of Jacques Rudolph's undoubted capabilities and experience is a great boost ahead of the new season.

"With an increasingly heavy first-class schedule it will be a huge advantage to have a world-class opening batsman available to us. I look forward to welcoming Jacques to Glamorgan.”

Rudolph, who is currently playing in the Champions League T20 in India for Titans, said: "I'm delighted to be joining Glamorgan on a two-year deal.

"I enjoyed my time playing for Yorkshire so I'm looking forward to the challenge at Glamorgan and hopefully enjoying similar success."
