Only 15.1 overs were possible at Edgbaston as the third NatWest Series one-day international fell foul of inclement weather.
Poor forecasts proved correct with rain striking over the early part of the day to delay the start.
After play began just 20 minutes late, Michael Carberry, Kevin Pietersen and Joe Root fell cheaply to leave Australia, who chose to bowl, in a good position.
Carberry was run-out following a mix-up with Pietersen, who then top-edged an attempted pull off a fiery Mitchell Johnson straight to square-leg.
The tourists further strengthened their grip on proceedings when Adam Voges - introduce to try and race through some overs with further rain around - held a return catch to oust Root.
But the heavens opened once more thereafter and consistent downpours meant another encounter was lost to poor conditions.
Australia remain 1-0 ahead in the rubber following a washout at Headingley and victory at the Emirates Old Trafford.
England Innings
7:06pm - MATCH ABANDONED! - The inevitable has happened! What a shame for those in attendance. It means Australia are now 1-0 up after three matches, with England needing victories in the final two for a NatWest series triumph.

Light drizzle still falling at Edgbaston and prospects of play are not good #engvaus

6:34pm - It's all very grim still.
Groundstaff reckon 40 minutes to clear the covers of water, then it's up to the umpires to decide. Very fine rain falling still :( #EngvAus

We need to be playing by 830pm to get a 20 over a side game in.

5:05pm - Edgbaston cuts a grim sight at the moment. I have a horrible feeling we may have seen the last action.

3:35pm - RAIN STOPS PLAY! - I am afraid the poor weather has returned. This could well prove to be a frustrating day.
3:25pm - WICKET! Root c & b Voges 12; England 52/3 - With Australia seeking quick overs given there is a little rain around, Michael Clarke turns to Adam Voges. The move pays unexpected dividends as Root advances and sees the bowler claim a return catch following a leading edge.
3:14pm - Joe Root interrupts the 'Johnson V Trott Show', in which the latest instalment saw the batsman flick another four over square-leg after being hit in the grill, with a flowing cover-drive off Josh Hazlewood.
3:07pm - Glorious stroke from Trott, who picks up his first boundary when clipping Johnson over square-leg for four.
2:58pm - REVIEW! - Trott is reprieved by the Decision Review System. Having been given out lbw off Johnson, the number three sent it upstairs and umpire Michael Gough's decision was overturned.
2:48pm - WICKET! Pietersen c Bailey b Johnson 6; England 26/2 - Johnson is rewarded for a fine spell as Pietersen skies an attempted pull straight to square-leg.
2:44pm - Trott is off to a busy start having reached 11 at a run-a-ball without striking a boundary.
2:33pm - After Mitchell Johnson sends down a fiery first over, in which he causes Jonathan Trott a couple of problems, McKay gives England the gift of five byes.
2:24pm - WICKET! Carberry run out 1; England 5/1 - Kevin Pietersen, facing his first delivery, begins with a crunching clip through midwicket off Clint McKay. Later in the over, though, Michael Carberry is run out following a mix-up with his opening partner.
Pre-Play News
2:08pm - AUSTRALIA WIN TOSS & BOWL - Michael Clarke wins the coin-flip and, with further rain around, unsurprisingly opts to chase. The tourists make one alteration, Josh Hazlewood replacing Fawad Ahmed, while England are unchanged.
1:57pm - Good news! There will be a toss in eight minutes with play starting at 2:20pm. In the meantime, why not watch our video with Matthew Hoggard, who has just announced his retirement?

1:28pm - And now some official news: the toss has been delayed. That's not the news we were hoping for.
1:15pm - Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the third NatWest Series one-day international between England and Australia. The tourists are currently 1-0 ahead following a washout at Headingley and victory at Emirates Old Trafford. The bad news is that negative forecasts have proven correct; it's raining presently and has been for much of the morning.
