Rain ensured no play was possible on day four of the fifth and final Investec Ashes Test at the Kia Oval.

Forecasts unfortunately proved correct as steady inclement weather ensured the covers remained in place throughout the day.

England will, therfore, resume on day five at 247 for four in response to Australia's 492 for nine declared.

Pre-Play News

4:07pm - STUMPS! England 247/4 - Play has been abandoned as expected, just as the weather worsens. Utterly miserable now.

4:04pm - It's hammering it down again, although spirits were briefly raised by a gentleman proposing on the outfield. She said yes...

3:33pm - It's still raining here. I think it may be called off soon...

2:22pm - Still no sign of play unfortunately. What a dismal day.

12:20pm - It's now raining heavier than at any other stage of the day. Not a pretty sight.

11:25am - The rain is not heavy for the moment but it's still falling. It will take at least 90 minutes to prepare the ground should it stop.

11am - Bad news I'm afraid: lunch will be taken at 12:30pm, meaning there is no prospect of play beforehand.

10:39am - If we do get under way, England will resume on 247 for four in response to Australia's 492 for nine declared. Why not read our report from yesterday to find out more?

10:27am - The bad news, too, is that the meteorologists are predicting this rain will not go away. Let's hope that does not prove accurate.

10:15am - Hello and welcome to ecb.co.uk's live commentary from a damp Kia Oval. I am afraid the weather forecast has proven correct thus far and there appears to be little chance of day four of the fifth Investec Ashes Test starting on time.
