Heather Knight spoke ahead of England women's ODI against Australia at Lord's
Ashes Test centurion Heather Knight hopes to break her Lord’s duck tomorrow in the first of three one-day internationals between England and Australia.
Knight’s 157 at the top of the order helped the hosts recover from 113 for six in their first innings and comfortably secure a draw over four days at Wormsley.
For 50-over internationals, in which she has 36 caps, the right-hander occupies the middle order. If selected tomorrow, the former MCC Young Cricketer is optimistic of aiding victory to put England ahead in the series.
Both teams took two points from the drawn Test and as many are available for each of the six limited-overs games that follow.
“I haven’t actually won here yet so hopefully we can buck that trend tomorrow,” she told ecb.co..uk.
“It’s a brilliant place to place to play. I’ve been on the MCC YCs as well. I’ve trained here for a few years. It’s home from home for me so I’m looking forward to getting out there.”
Having faced 338 balls - the longest she has batted - for her Wormsley 157, Knight knows she must up her scoring rate in the ODIs.
“It’s a different format and it’s just trying to change your mindset and change your game slightly to bat then,” she said. “Obviously I play a slightly different role in the middle order in the ODI team. Hopefully I’ll get a game tomorrow.”
England and Australia’s last ODI was at the World Cup in February when Charlotte Edwards’ side lost by two runs to the eventual champions at Mumbai.
“We’ve had a few close games in ODI cricket with the Aussies recently as well, but we’re confident here tomorrow that we can get a win,” Knight added.
