Another fine innings from Ryan Higgins proved in vain for England as Pakistan secured the Under-19 Tri-Series crown with a 192-run victory at Trent Bridge.

Middlesex batsman Higgins, 18, passed 50 for the fourth match in succession and took his tournament aggregate to 356 at an average of 71 by striking 70 not out from 79 deliveries.

However, despite the continuation of their number three’s excellent form, England were limited to 151 all out in reply to Pakistan’s mammoth 343 for six, which featured 110 from skipper Sami Aslam.

Shayan Jahangir contributed 85 and Kamran Ghulam added an unbeaten 61 from just 32 balls after Aslam had elected to bat.

Yorkshire duo Matthew Fisher and Will Rhodes picked up two wickets apiece for England, while captain Ben Duckett, part of the Northants Steelbacks side that won the Friends Life t20 at Edgbaston on Saturday, claimed three catches behind the stumps.

In reply, Higgins was the only batsman to make any real impression as left-arm spinner Zafar Gohar shone once again with 4-25.

Pakistan were therefore able to finish the competition with an unbeaten record, having squeaked past England on Friday to make it five wins from as many completed games in the group stage.
