Adil Rashid hit his third century in six LV= County Championship Division One innings as Yorkshire looked to make up for lost time on the third day of their clash with Somerset at Taunton.
Rashid took his average for the season to an astonishing 252 by extending his overnight score of 47 to 103 not out before the visitors declared their first innings on 450 for five. Andrew Hodd contributed an unbeaten 68 to a sixth-wicket stand of 170.
With the first day having been washed out, Yorkshire's only hope of victory was making Somerset follow-on – something that looked likely when, despite Marcus Trescothick's 74, the hosts plunged to 120 for four.
At that point, Somerset needed a further 181 to avoid being asked to bat again.
James Hildreth and Alex Barrow, with 76 not out and 26 respectively, provided renewed hope with a stand of 52.
But part-time off-spinner Adam Lyth then removed the latter and Peter Trego with successive balls before Somerset closed on 232 for six.
Rashid must wish he could face Somerset in every match; having taken 180 off their attack in the corresponding match at Headingley this season, he was soon in total command again as Yorkshire began the day on 341 for five.
Some glorious cover drives, delivered with a flourish of the bat, characterised his latest ton, which was reached off 119 balls - including 19 fours. He has now amassed 504 runs in his six championship innings this summer, with four not outs.
Hodd was dropped twice by Trescothick at slip, errors which cost Somerset a second bowling point, and had faced 99 balls, hitting eight fours, when the declaration came.
Rashid and Hodd timed their stand so well that they brought up the 400 and maximum batting points with one ball of the 110th over to spare.
When Somerset replied, it was soon clear that Trescothick was the wicket Yorkshire needed. The former England opener overcame an uncertain start to cruise to a half-century off 76 balls with seven fours.
Steven Patterson struck two early blows by removing Arul Suppiah and Lewis Gregory lbw and it was 105 for three at tea following Trescothick's departure, lbw pushing half-forward to Richard Pyrah.
Somerset's new overseas signing Dean Elgar ruined at impressive start when, on 28, he smacked a Ryan Sidebottom long-hop straight to Rashid at point.
And, while Hildreth played responsibly in facing 112 balls, Lyth's unexpected strikes in his opening over were welcome bonuses for Yorkshire.
